"PRAY TO YOUR FATHER"

Posted by: Shirley Smith on Wed, Sep 9, 2020

Matthew 6:6

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

During a recent weekend trip to the coast, my husband and I stayed in a motel at a marina. Sailboats and fishing vessels lined up, cozy as eggs in a carton. We sat on our balcony that evening, talking.

The next morning, I woke early. I tiptoed to the balcony so as not to wake my husband. As I watched the boats bobbing softly, black water lapping at their hulls, a sensation of deep peace poured over me. I was alone with Jesus. I didn't have to be anywhere or do anything. I had time to enjoy His presence. I wasn't in a room with the door shut, but I was by myself and centered on Him.

Praying during sunrise, I felt satisfaction filling my heart, and I realized how much I missed these precious uninterrupted moments with Jesus When had life become too busy? Yes, I prayed to Him several times daily. But I'd stopped setting aside enough time to listen for His answers and to simply rest in Him.

I'm home now, and the bustle of a happy life continues to crowd my waking moments. But a desire as real as hunger has grown in me. The stillness of those intimate minutes with the Lord beckon.

Tomorrow, I'm going to rise before daybreak and steal away to the rocker on my porch. I won't have boasts to watch or seagulls. But I'll have my Comforter, Friend, and Savior. And He's all I need.  (HEIDI GAUL)

FAITH STEP:  Take a few minutes at dawn or dusk and rest in the Lord. Pray your deepest personal thoughts, knowing that Jesus is with you and He's listening.
